After my first attempt to craft with burlap, I have something to admit. It may not be popular to say this, but here goes:
Burlap and me? We're not exactly good friends.
It's messy, it's hard to cut straight, and though the roughness of it and your finished projects is supposed to be charming, I'm not so sure it's my style.
I decided to make an inital plaque, roughly fashioned after this one at Craft-O-Maniac. I gathered my supplies:
Cut out my scrapbook paper letter to Mod Podge on:
Painted my plaque, gave it a shabby wash, and Mod Podged the burlap on:
Yuck. I wanted to throw it away right here, or at least scrape off the burlap and try to salvage it. But I forged ahead and tried to add some cuteness to make it look better.
Yes- definitely better.
With the wooden letter and some cute buttons adhered, it came out decently after all. Maybe it will grow on me.

I don't think I'm a fan of the burlap either. I like clean, crisp lines and the rough edges just don't do it for me. If it had a nice, finished edge I'd love it!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I would love to see what it looked like with the Monogram on it. It really does look great.
ReplyDeleteThis is fab! I love the burlap as a background accent.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback! Nice to know I'm not the only one with burlap issues. I do like how it looks in theory. Maybe it's user error....
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT! turned out cute, cute paper too. Thanks for giving me credit. Jen
