Dollar Store Halloween Crafts: Halloween Door Hanger

Using just three dollar store items and some spray paint, you can make your own cute Halloween door hanger!

DIY Halloween Dollar Store Door Hanger

Hey everyone-- thanks for stopping by today, whether you are a regular reader or just joining us through the blog hop.  I went to our local Dollar Tree in search of inspiration for some Halloween crafts, and came away with supplies for three different projects!

Today I'm going to show you how I turned this

into this.

First, I picked up some Rustoleum spray paint in Rustic Orange.  This stuff is great because it has awesome coverage, and it bonds to plastic, which was really important since my tray is made out of plastic.

I turned my platter over so I'd have a great shape to build from and sprayed two coats of spray paint, leaving time for drying in between.

Once it was dry, it was time to turn this yard sign into parts for my hanger.  I chopped off the stick part, then cut it into pieces to form a stem for my pumpkin.

I attached the stem with hot glue, then attached the "Beware" part of the yard sign onto my pumpkin as a banner.

I finished off with a bow made from cute Dollar Tree Halloween ribbon!

This is perfect to welcome all your Halloween guests to your door!

Patriotic Round-up!

I hope you all are about to have a wonderful weekend of celebrating our country and spending time with friends and family! I get to spend it with my immediate family tonight, and then head up to see my mom, brother and Valerie! Yay! I don't get to see Valerie very often so any chance I get is awesome.
If you have some time off of work it may just be the perfect time to throw together a last minute craft.  A lot of the patriotic supplies are on sale so it's a great time to get your craft on!
You could do this easy burlap star banner to complete your mantle!

Try this patriotic wreath with necklaces from the dollar store!
Wooden blocks always open up the possibilities for great decorations.
Do you have one of these stars on your house? Here's a way to spruce it up!

Whatever your plans are this weekend, be safe and make memories!

Music Dice

Most of you know that Valerie and I teach piano lessons. At the end of the school year we hold a recital and I always like to give the students a little gift. This is what I did last year.

This year I wanted to give them something that would help them in their piano lessons. I really wanted to make them their own canvas bags to hold their piano books, but had a hard time making it economical. Instead I stumbled on these Rhythm Sticks on the Music in Motion website. I often pull out my drum pad and drum sticks during lessons to help them with rhythm, but for a good price I could get them their own sticks to use at home and in lessons! I also decided to get them a pad of manuscript paper to encourage creativity and composition.

One way that I use rhythm sticks in their lessons is by playing a fun game with dice. This is where the crafting comes in. I bought these foam dice at the dollar store. 2 dice come in a package for $1.

Then I printed out different values of notes and rests on the computer, and cut them into squares that would fit onto the dice.

I laminated them.

And then ran them through my Xyron sticker maker, and adhered them to the dice.

Now I have all sorts of rhythmic possibilities for my students to play on their sticks! Roll the dice and tap it out. Also notice that one of the sticks is ridged. Whenever there's a note more than two beats in length I have them drag the smooth stick along the ridged stick for the length of that note. They love it!

I think this is the first time I've crafted for my piano lessons. Hmm.... what else could I make?

Ready for Spring? Spring Vinyl Plate

Here in AZ, we don't necessarily long for spring.  March is our perfect weather month, our respite before the 100 degree days begin, sometimes in April.  Still, there is something about this time of year.  Two of my three children were born in the spring, so I definitely feel the "renewal of life" vibe that spring brings.

I'm getting my spring decor up, and this year I decided to add this plate:  (I apologize for the bad light- the only time I could take this was at night!)

I found a quote I liked (credited as "Proverb"), created it in my Silhouette software, and slapped it on a dollar store plate.  I planned to do some more vinyl shapes at the bottom, but I thought some rolled fabric rosettes would give it that spring feeling too.  I had everything on hand, so it was free to me!

I hope Spring comes quickly where you live!
