This week's edition of Making My Own involves a household staple: pizza! This is the one food that we can all agree on and eat a lot of. We LOVE ordering pizza, and for us it's a perfect Friday night meal. We sit and watch Wipeout or AFV, laugh, eat, and relax from a long week.
However, as the kids have gotten older, we consume more pizza, which makes it more expensive. Even a few hot 'n readys add up if you do it every week. So, I turned to a good friend of mine who is really the Making My Own queen. She makes all her own bread, dressings, seasonings, beans, furniture, and beautiful children. If she had a blog, I'd be using everything off of it. But since she is my friend, I had her come over and show me the pizza crust she makes every week. Guys, it is easy, tasty, and cheap!!
The recipe is actually for an artisan bread, but it works great as pizza dough. The full details can be found here, but keep reading and I'll show you just how awesome this is.
You start out by mixing your ingredients into a bucket. I halved the recipe since there's only four of us, and it fit well into this ice cream bucket. Mix and let rise according to the instructions. You can even keep it in your refrigerator until you're ready to use it!
About an hour before you are ready to make your pizza, pull it out and knead it until you have a nice ball of dough. I was making 2 pizzas so i separated it into two separate chunks at this time. Let it rest.

When you're ready to cook, heat your oven to 425 and roll out your dough. I did one on parchment paper and a pizza stone, and the other went in our cast iron skillet.

Add toppings just the way you love it. We did cheese for the boys and a BBQ chicken one for us adults.

They were delicious! The crust is SO good, and then of course the rest is just how you like it, all for the cost of some flour, yeast and water (and of course your toppings). This is the weekly tradition in our household now, and I can't wait for you to try it too!
