Three Things Thursday

Welcome to Three Things Thursday, where I share a few projects that have caught my eye in the link parties this week.  Let me tell you, there are some beautiful, fun, adorable projects out there every week.  Even if you don't link projects up, you should definitely visit the parties for some major inspiration.

First up, I am in love with this Fall Ombre Rosette Wreath from Flamingo Toes.  It is just beautiful!

Next, I came across this creative, colorful, fun, ADORABLE First Birthday Party from Life with Luke.  I've got birthdays on the brain, since my youngest turns 2 next week.  She has some beautiful projects, so definitely click over for all the details!  I just had to show you her wreath, because I would have NEVER thought to do this, and it's so cute!

Finally, these Fruit-Themed Baby Bibs from My Own Road  might just be the cutest bibs I've ever seen!  I don't know if I could bear to actually use them on a baby.  Love!  I think the strawberry is my favorite.

Thanks so much for the inspiration ladies!  Feel free to grab a featured button if you like!

Scrappin' Wednesday- Some Days Ya Gotta Dance

My oldest daughter started dance in 2010.  She enrolled in a combination class that taught tap, ballet, hip-hop, and tumbling.  In June, they put on a recital at a local high school.  My daughter's class performed a tap number to the Dixie Chick's "Some Days You Gotta Dance".  It was adorable.  I'm sure someday we will look back on the performance with chagrin, but for a bunch of five year olds, it was great!

Here's the layout I put together for her cute dance pictures.  Imagine a whole stage full of cuties in these costumes!

Thanks for looking!

Scarlett and Maria- Kanzashi Accessories

I'd like to introduce you to one of my sponsors this month, a unique Etsy shop called Scarlett and Maria- Handmade Kanzashi Accessories.  She says:

Tsumami Kanzashi are the hair ornaments worn by the Geishas dating back hundreds of years to the Edo period. Scarlett and Maria mixes traditional Japanese Kanzashi technique with an American twist inspired by modern trends, 20th century vintage, & found materials. These flowers are sustainably made with upcycled or vintage materials and buttons. They are folded like origami petal by petal, sewn together, and secured with high quality craft glue, then finally if necessary sprayed with fabric stiffener for the more delicate shapes. Each piece is one of a kind, and this technique renders them highly customizable and adaptable to my clients' favorite colors and themes. Handmade in St. Louis, Missouri.

These are beautiful!  She has them for your hair, as jewelry, and on trinket boxes and home decorations.  I particularly like these:

The Lilac Dahlia

This Red Fabric Flower Necklace

and this Magenta Flower Ring

There's so much to see at Scarlett and Maria, so click on over!  You'll love it!

My First Purse- The Layla Bag

I'm pretty sure I've discussed my general lack of sewing skills and downright fear of trying new things.  So, really, I don't know what I was thinking when I decided that I could make a purse.

I won a free pattern from Linda at Ruffled Begonia (better known as the blog author of Craftaholics Anonymous).  I chose the Layla Bag Pattern, which is available for purchase here.  It's pretty adorable, don't you think?

I decided to also be brave and order designer fabric for this project.  I had a vision in my head of what I wanted this purse to be, and regular old fabric from Joann wasn't going to cut it this time.  I found this Citron Gray Color Story from Michael Miller and fell in love.  It took me awhile to choose which fabrics I wanted the most.  It's just gorgeous.

Anyway, while I waited for my fabric to arrive, I decided to test out the pattern on some scraps.  I knew I would screw something up, and really didn't want to waste my "good" fabric.  Does anyone else do this or I am I just totally neurotic?  Anyway, I'm so glad I did, because my ruffles weren't sewed on evenly, I stitched my top strip on incorrectly, and I totally messed up the pocket (of all things).  (All user error, I assure you.  The pattern and directions are easy to follow).  When my fabric came, I took my time and made sure to correct all my mistakes.

Now, it is my second first attempt at a purse, so there are definitely some imperfections, but overall, I LOVE how it turned out.

A little more Michael Miller for the inside:

The fabrics work perfectly with the pattern.  I get compliments every time I "take it out", which unfortunately, isn't often since I still usually have a toddler with me wherever I go.

Thanks so much for the pattern Linda.  I love my purse so much I'm linking up to Purse Week over at A Lemon Squeezy Home.    I'm also linking up to some of these parties.  I'm pretty proud of myself for making my first purse.

Now, which bag should I try next?
