Now that you've seen how I made my custom craft desk and my giant pegboard, let's talk about how I'm organizing all my stuff.

Having recently moved, I have significantly less stuff than the average crafter, as I had to get rid of a ton of goods for the cross-country moved.  I know if you're starting from the middle of a closet full of junk, organizing your stuff is a lot harder!  But maybe I can give you some new ideas.

I'm using my pegboard for all my most often used supplies.  I bought some peg board hooks and used them to organize things like my punches, scissors, and other small tools.  Other hooks hold buckets, baskets, and even a shelf for my awesome laminator.  I want to get another shelf to keep some small jars on, but that's one of those small projects I keep forgetting about.

So, what to keep in those buckets?  I have one for sponge brushes, one for my Silhouette sketch pens, and one for pens and pencils.  Those are all things I use fairly regularly, so I don't want to have to dig for them in a drawer.

The baskets hold my ribbon rolls and my paint/adhesive sprays/etc.  I've got some serious restocking to do on both of those!

* Buckets and baskets are from the Dollar Spot at Target.

I also keep black and white adhesive vinyl on some wooden dowels, as I use these the most often.

The last of my hooks and dowels hold my washi tape and other decorative tape rolls.

I need a clean and clear workspace, so the only things I keep on the desk are my Silhouette Cameo, my huge roll of transfer tape, and my guillotine paper cutter.  I often have my laptop as well when I'm cutting vinyl.

Everything else goes in the cabinet.  One cabinet holds my sewing machine and all my sewing supplies.  I don't sew nearly as much as I used to, so why display any of it?  It's all there when I need to pull it out.

The other cabinet holds my scrapbook paper, general supplies like glue and embellishments, vinyl sheets, and anything related to my Silhouette (manuals, cutting mats, etc.)

In the closet, I have a plastic 3-drawer unit that holds miscellaneous items that I like to have on hand, but don't often use.  Party supplies I make and want to re-use, yarn, felt, fabric markers, and other odds and ends all have a place in the drawer.

I also have a space in the closet for fabric, but again, as I don't sew very often anymore, I keep it mostly put away.

If I was offering anyone advice on organizing craft supplies (and I guess I am since I'm writing a blog post about it), I would tell you to only keep out the things you use regularly.  Keep it simple.  The more often you use things, the closer they should be to your workspace.  If you don't use it often, move it somewhere it won't clutter up the space for your essential supplies.

The way I have my stuff annoys my husband.  He would set things up differently.  Maybe you feel the same way!  But, this works for me, and helps me to keep things neat and organized.
