I made a Skirt

I've been bookmarking tutorials for weeks, trying to find one that I thought I wouldn't screw up too much.  I'm not a very confident clothes sewer.  I can sew little things, crafty things, things for my kids.  But when it comes to clothes for me, I'm just a big chicken.

Anyway, I'd love to tell you I found the perfect tutorial/pattern and it was so much easier than I thought and I was worried for nothing.

I didn't.  I chickened out.  Instead, I made this:

Basically, I sewed two pieces of fabric together at the sides, hemmed it, sewed a casing, and made an elastic waist.  (Zippers scare me).  For a little more detail, you can follow this tutorial (minus the ruffle).

It's still pretty cute, but the fit isn't anything fancy. It'll do for a quick summer skirt.

Maybe next time I'll be more brave.

What are you scared to try?  Maybe we can overcome our fears together!

  1. Hey Valerie,

Don't underestimate your skirt! It looks great.I can't make clothing either but just think, you made your first piece of clothing. Practice makes perfect so give it another try.
